There is a place within you that does not need to run.
Beneath the worry, beneath the anticipation of what might happen, beneath the mind's endless attempts to prepare for every possibility, there is a quieter place. A place that exists only here, only now. We do not have to create this refuge. We practice remembering how to return to it.
The breath is one of the simplest ways home.
When we intentionally bring our awareness to breathing, something subtle begins to happen. Attention moves away from everything that might happen and returns to what is happening here, in this moment. The breath becomes an anchor to presence—a meeting place between the body, the mind, and the quiet awareness beneath them both.
This is the heart of breathwork for anxious moments.
Not the promise that worry will never return.
Not the expectation that uncertainty will disappear.
But the practice of discovering that even when the mind is restless, we can create moments of presence within ourselves.
We often imagine safety as something that will arrive when we finally know what happens next.
When the uncertainty is resolved.
When the difficult conversation is over.
When the future becomes predictable.
When everything we care about is secure.
When we can finally be certain that nothing will go wrong.
And so the mind travels ahead of us, searching the future for reassurance.
Sacred practice offers another possibility: perhaps refuge is not found by knowing what comes next. Perhaps it begins by returning to what is here now.
Breathwork gives us a physical way to explore this.
For a few intentional minutes, there is no future to solve.
There is only this breath.
Thoughts may continue moving. Questions may remain unanswered. The world outside the practice may still contain uncertainty.
Nothing has to be resolved before we enter.
We simply breathe.
Across contemplative traditions, sanctuary has represented a place of retreat; a space set apart from the noise and demands of ordinary life.
But sanctuary does not always have to be somewhere we go.
It can be something we remember within ourselves.
The breath is always here.
Quietly moving beneath our thoughts, accompanying us through every ordinary and extraordinary moment of our lives.
When we bring our attention intentionally to breathing, the breath can become a point of return.
The return is the practice.
Over time, this relationship with the breath can remind us that we do not have to follow every fearful thought into the future. We do not have to answer every imagined possibility. We do not have to know what happens next in order to inhabit this moment.
Sometimes we can simply notice.
Sometimes we can simply breathe.
Sometimes we can rest for a moment inside the life that is actually happening now.
Temple of Refuge is a private one-on-one online breathwork experience devoted to grounding, presence, meditation, and finding moments of refuge during times of worry or anxiousness.
At the center of the experience is an 11-minute guided breathwork practice, surrounded by intention, quiet reflection, meditation, and integration.
There is nothing you are required to overcome.
You do not have to stop every anxious thought.
You do not have to force yourself to relax.
You do not have to arrive already feeling calm.
You arrive exactly as you are.
The Temple is a container in which we practice returning from what might happen to what is here.
To the body.
To the breath.
To this moment.
And perhaps refuge begins there.
Not when we finally know that everything will unfold exactly as we wish—
but when, for a moment,
we remember that we are here.

Each experience builds upon the last, creating space to deepen your relationship with the breath, observe what unfolds, and return to the practice with greater awareness.
Between our sessions, your personalized journal becomes a companion to the practice; a space to notice what continues to unfold, reflect on your experience, and explore the guidance and prompts created for your journey. When we meet again, we return to the Temple with whatever you have discovered along the way.
Return to the Temple, to the breath, to yourself.
